GIGSWAPPING @ DANCEVALLEY (continued)
We are well... More extraordinary? We are Rome meets Amsterdam, Prague meets the USA, Belgium meets Maleysia and we're throwing some mean old school vynil scratched roots and high energy blues your way, to blend with your electropop smoothies, We're Gyspy Swing added to Cowpunk and be sure to get caught up into other mad experiments too!

After Sofie Nickel had to cancel as she lost her voice completely, a result of a bad cold... Get well soon, girl! Fortunately we've been sooo lucky to have found a more than suitable replacement in the gifted Nathalie Giannitrapani, yet another GigSwapping singer songwriter. Nathalie will play her songs accompanying herself on piano and guitar. Nathalie is an exquisitely talented singer and perfomer has pledged to fill the gap. We are just very proud to have her!

This means we now have two perfectly talented voices on stage to part the clouds: because from Amsterdam the show includes the brightly shining star Gaya.

Than it´s up to the notorious Utrecht high energy blues formation 'The Phonetics', ft. for this special occasion Dj DNA (The Urban Dace Squad) to stirr up your roots and pour some vinyl thrills down your spine...

Swinc.'s unique 30's and 40's Gypsy Jazz and standards repertoir will certainly get your blood flowing and your feet moving; with Mariange´s vocals your will be taking a seamless timeshift into the earliest aera's of sweet sung jazz classics. Swinc will also support the legendary singer Shai Shahar, who has a beautiful, soothening and warm voice and a great stage presence. Shai wi'll sing anything from crooner songs to classic big band compositions and jazz standards.

'The Tower of Dudes' are a notorious cowpunk band, acting out a Czech' variation of unleashed Cajun Tex Mex Polka.

Saer Ze, the queen of electroglam and selfproclaimed 'dirty disco doll', will be on stage with
MC Dusaar, a reknowned Belgian MC.

Finaly, last but not least, it's Matthew´s Workshop, also from the Czeska Republica, guaranteed to blow you hat, with a mix of funk, rap and downright Rock and roll!

Put all of that in your shaker, and you´ll certainly have an 'all sytems unleashed' party. And know what? That's just only us already - there will be loads more to enjoy on our premisses at the Globalicious area!

GigSwap Showcase @ the Dance Valley festival!

(Working late here, after a long tropical day in The Netherlands... Yes, summer can be good, though some of us can't quit this digital typewriter. Sue me for trying to get a good party started!)

So... HERE'S THE LATEST!

Amsterdam, July 2008 - This is a first time special - we are invited to perform at the Dutch Dance Valley festival with a showcase of 6 GigSwap.org acts!

This is a special feat for loads of reasons, but first because our line up has little to do with the central theme and genre of the festival. We are a sideshow here, but not in a demeaning way - the fact the festival headlines DJ Tiesto, Ferry Corsten and Carl Cox, to name a few, makes this an already honourable occasion!

I am not quite sure how many of the 50.000 (!) visitors will make it our way and hang out with our crew, but I am convinced it will be a grand display and we will make it worth their every minute!

We were especialy invited by Cindy Pielstroom of Connecting People, who handles overall production and programming for this program. We are here to give the esteemed audience a little variation on the menu, a different taste, a mix with a touch of roots and feel, some diversity and the odd theatrical accent. We'll be on our own stage in a seperate area called "L'Oeuvre d'Art".

In the context of a Dance Festival it's a litle bit like ´the last of the Mohicans´ feel, as we are playing ´real instruments´, true and unrecorded ´live music´, no sample's in da house. yep, it will be a thrill in itself, surrounded by the multitudes of technolover, jungle, househeads, electrojunks and trancefans to get across. And I am sure we will get across with our amazing line up!

I am personaly extremely positively curious. For starters the GigSwap solo acts and bands are lined up in various totaly new combinations! Fruitfull collaborations as an additional creative outcome of our free and revolutionary concept working together through GigSwap.org. We´ll have bluesbands playing along wth DJ's, some bandmembers filling in for eachother, we have great singer songwriters, MC's, a superb Dancing Squad, the National Sex Coach, the 2005 National Air Guitar Champion, just to name some highlights.

For GigSwapping we´ll showcase half an hour per act. Here's the list:

From the Netherlands, we´ll have the Utrecht formation 'The Phonetics', playing High Energy Blues. They will be accompanied by the one and only vinyl smoking DJ DNA, known best for his briljant Dj'ing for the Urban Dance Squad.

We also have present 'Sofie Nickel', from Berlin, a very talented young singer songwriter that will bring some downright fresh and tickling off centre popsongs for your appraisal.

Plus we are just proud, almost too much so to admitt, to host 'The Tower Of Dudes', an Accordeon driven Texmex Cajun Indy Cow Punk and Country type of band, which is sure to get you dancing, if u do not spontaniously combust.

Also not the least of the list are the localy reknowned Gypsy Swing Orchestra that go by the name of 'Swinc.' They play 30's and 40's Gyspy Jazz that will re/inspire you with the music of legends like Django Reinhart. They play live so mcuh they don;t have time to set up even a website! You bet thems are good!!!

What will surely also get you started too is her highness, our own Maleysian Electro Queen 'Saer Ze' - A self proclaimed 'Dirty Disco Doll' who'll perform her latest homebrew tracks along with her posse, featuring Belgian 'urban legend' MC Dusaar & friends.

The creme of the cherry, top of the shelve, and al the way from Czech Republic we prest 2 you 'Matthew's Workshop'. These young chums has something to wake up in you should you still be standing still, wel than there's just no hope left for you - But they will still not be stopped to serve you their generous mix of funk, rap and rock and roll to amplify every little bone and muscle to GET YOU JUMPING!!!

So, should there be any reason why you can't make it over, no sweat, there will be lot´s of coverage on Dutch tv and radio for you too enjoy, and we´ll bring you some souvenirs, pics, visds, you name it. Alright?

Best whishes for now, I've got some t-shirts to design...

Radio Free Carmela, thank u!

While I'm writing this blog, we've just returned from our first Amsterdam GigSwap event @ The Winston Kingdom in the Amsterdam city centre, just to let you know: we had a blast! Carmela Pedicini (Florida, US) openend for us and right there and then completely swept us off our feet. Carmela's ´Americana´ music really got us cheering and applauding her from the get go, first song to last. This last song actualy was a passionate protestsong touching me deeply. Proof of the fact that true convictions and great songwriting goes together really, really well.

Check all about Carmela here: http://www.radiofreecarmela.com.

I am now listening to the CD she gave me at the concert and enjoying it immensely! Carmela left after the show for the Schiphol Airport to head back to the USA, but she was leaving us with a great experience!

I´ll write some more on this memorable night later, off to take a nap now...

Best whishes,

Henk
